General Troubleshooting Guide
Support Limitations
Please note that HORI can only provide basic troubleshooting assistance for issues involving software, games, PC hardware, or other products that are not manufactured or developed by HORI.
For issues specifically related to game software, Windows, PC hardware, or other third-party products, please contact the appropriate game developer/publisher, PC manufacturer, or hardware manufacturer for further assistance.
1. General Troubleshooting
Before You Begin
Before using the product, please make sure the product firmware and PC driver are up to date.
Connect your HORI Force Feedback Truck Control System to a Windows PC and install the latest HORI Device Manager and updated PC driver using the links below.
HORI Device Manager:

Important: Please follow all instructions displayed in the HORI Device Manager when updating the product firmware. Do not disconnect the product while a firmware update is in progress.
Please note that some antivirus programs may flag these applications because they are relatively new and may not yet be widely recognized. The files provided through the links above are safe to use.
After completing the firmware and PC driver updates:
- Disconnect the HORI devices from your PC.
- Restart your computer.
- Wait until Windows has fully restarted.
- Reconnect the HORI devices.
- Launch the game.
Steering Wheel Initialization
When the steering wheel begins its automatic initialization and calibration process, it will rotate in both directions.
Do not touch, hold, or prevent the steering wheel from rotating during this process.
Interfering with the wheel during initialization may cause a calibration error or incorrect steering behavior.
In-Game Settings
If the steering response does not feel correct:
- Open the controller or steering settings within the game.
- Check the steering sensitivity and input sensitivity settings.
- Try lowering or adjusting the sensitivity.
- Test the steering again to determine whether the response improves.
Because individual games handle controller inputs differently, available settings and terminology may vary by game.
2. Windows PC Recognition and Function Test
If the product is not functioning correctly in a game, first verify that Windows is recognizing the steering wheel and its inputs correctly.
Method 1: Devices and Printers
- Open Control Panel.

Navigate to:
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers
- Locate HORI TRUCK CONTROLLER SYSTEM WHEEL.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Select Properties again to access the controller function test.
Method 2: Game Controller Settings
- Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click HORI TRUCK CONTROLLER SYSTEM WHEEL.
- Select Game Controller Settings.
- Select the HORI Truck Controller System.
- Select Properties.
Method 3: joy.cpl
If you cannot access the test using the methods above:
- Press Windows Key + R.

Type:
joy.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select the HORI Truck Controller System.
- Select Properties.
3. Testing Steering Wheel Inputs
Within the Windows controller function test, verify the following.
Buttons
Press each button on the steering wheel.
The corresponding button number should illuminate or register on the Windows controller test screen.
Steering Wheel
Turn the steering wheel left and right.
The steering input should register on the corresponding axis indicators within the controller test screen.
Analog Stick
Move the analog stick located on the steering wheel.
The analog stick movement should register within the appropriate axis display.
Depending on the Windows configuration or driver installation, it is possible for the steering wheel and analog stick axes to appear in different locations within the test screen. For example:
- Steering wheel movement may register within the square axis display.
- Analog stick movement may register within the bar-style axis indicators.
This does not necessarily indicate a hardware problem as long as the inputs respond correctly and consistently.
If Inputs Do Not Register Correctly
If the values are missing, incorrect, inconsistent, or do not respond at all, the PC driver may not have installed correctly.
In this case:
- Disconnect the HORI devices.
- Uninstall the applicable HORI driver/software.
- Restart the PC.
- Reinstall the latest HORI software and PC driver.
- Restart the PC again.
- Reconnect the devices.
- Repeat the Windows controller function test.
4. Button Mapping

Important Note Regarding Button Numbers
The button numbers displayed in the Windows controller function test may not match the large numbers printed on certain buttons of the steering wheel.
For example:
Button 1 in the Windows controller function test refers to the button located in Section 10 on the right-hand side of the steering wheel diagram.
In Section 7 of the steering wheel diagram, there is a button labeled with a large “1.” This refers to Assistant Action 1 and does not correspond to Button 1 in the Windows function test.
Instead, this button corresponds to Button 30 in the Windows controller function test.
On the steering wheel, you will see:
- A large “1” indicating Assistant Action 1
- A smaller “30” indicating its Windows button assignment
Please use the smaller button number when comparing the physical controls with the Windows controller test.
5. Button Mapping Issues In-Game
If the buttons function correctly in the Windows controller test but do not correspond correctly within the game, the hardware itself may be operating normally.
Please try the following setting in the HORI Device Manager:
- Open HORI Device Manager.
- Select your HORI Force Feedback Truck Control System.
- Locate the Analog Stick and DPAD setting.
- Set Analog Stick and DPAD to Level 0.
- Save/apply the setting.
- Disconnect and reconnect the device if necessary.
- Launch the game and test the controls again.
If the buttons continue to function correctly in Windows but not within the game, please review the game's controller configuration or contact the game developer/publisher for additional assistance.
6. Pedal Troubleshooting
If the accelerator, brake, or clutch pedals are not responding correctly, first check their operation using the Windows controller function test.
Press each pedal individually and confirm that the corresponding input registers:
- Accelerator
- Brake
- Clutch
If all three pedals register correctly in Windows but do not function correctly within the game, please check the game's pedal assignment, controller mapping, dead zone, and sensitivity settings.
If one or more pedals do not register correctly within the Windows controller test, please perform a pedal calibration using the HORI Device Manager.
7. Pedal Calibration
Open the HORI Device Manager and navigate to the pedal calibration section.
Calibrate each pedal individually.
Accelerator
- Firmly press the accelerator pedal (far right) all the way down.
- Confirm that the indicator fills completely in blue.
- Select Start Calibration as instructed by the Device Manager.
Brake
- Firmly press the brake pedal (middle) all the way down.
- Confirm that the indicator fills completely in blue.
- Select Start Calibration as instructed by the Device Manager.
Clutch
- Firmly press the clutch pedal (far left) all the way down.
- Confirm that the indicator fills completely in blue.
- Select Start Calibration as instructed by the Device Manager.
After completing the calibration, save/apply the settings and test the pedals again using the Windows controller function test.

8. Pedal Noise / Squeaking
If one or more pedals produce a squeaking noise during operation, the noise may be caused by movement of the pedal spring or related mechanical components.
In some cases, applying a very small amount of appropriate grease to the spring contact area may help reduce the noise.
Important Precautions
- Do not use liquid lubricants, penetrating oils, or other fluids.
- Liquid lubricants may run into the internal electronics and could cause the pedals to malfunction.
- Do not disassemble or open the pedal unit.
Opening or disassembling the product may void the manufacturer's warranty.
If you are not comfortable performing basic external maintenance or if accessing the affected area would require disassembly, we recommend contacting your retailer regarding available warranty options or contacting HORI support for further assistance.
9. Force Feedback Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing weak, inconsistent, or unusual Force Feedback while playing supported truck simulation games, first confirm the following:
- The HORI product firmware is up to date.
- The latest HORI PC driver has been installed.
- The steering wheel completed its startup calibration without being touched.
- Force Feedback is enabled within the game.
- The HORI Truck Controller System is selected as the active controller within the game.
For American Truck Simulator and supported Euro Truck Simulator titles, the following settings may be used as a troubleshooting starting point.
Suggested Force Feedback Test Settings
- Controller Feedback: Enabled
- Force Feedback: Checked / Enabled
- Overall Gain: 200%
- Centering at High Speed: 100%
- Centering at Low Speed: 100%
- Internal Friction: 100%
- Engine Resonance: 100%
- Terrain Surface: 100%
- Bumps: 100%
- Collisions: 100%
- Gearbox Grind: 100%
- Understeer Slip: 100%
- Assisted Steering: 100%
These settings are intended as a troubleshooting baseline to confirm Force Feedback operation.
Once Force Feedback is functioning correctly, you may lower or adjust each setting according to your personal preference.
Please note that available Force Feedback settings may vary depending on the game version and game software.
10. If the Product Works in Windows but Not in the Game
If all steering wheel, button, analog stick, shifter, and pedal inputs function correctly within the Windows controller test but do not operate correctly within the game, this generally indicates that Windows is successfully receiving input from the HORI hardware.
Please check the following within the game:
- Confirm that the HORI Truck Controller System is selected as the active controller.
- Review the game's controller/input assignments.
- Reassign the affected controls manually if necessary.
- Check steering sensitivity and dead zone settings.
- Check accelerator, brake, and clutch assignments.
- Check Force Feedback settings.
- Reset the game's controller settings to default and configure the controller again if necessary.
- Confirm that the game supports the applicable input or function.
If the HORI product functions correctly within the Windows controller test but the problem occurs only within a specific game, please contact the game's developer or publisher for additional game-specific support.
11. If the Product Does Not Work Correctly in Windows
If buttons, steering, pedals, or other inputs do not respond correctly within the Windows controller test after completing the troubleshooting above:
- Confirm that all cables are securely connected.
- Disconnect the HORI devices.
- Restart the PC.
- Reconnect the devices after Windows has fully loaded.
- Confirm that the latest HORI Device Manager is installed.
- Confirm that the latest HORI PC driver is installed.
- Check for available product firmware updates.
- Reinstall the PC driver if necessary.
- Repeat the Windows controller function test.
- Perform the appropriate calibration within the HORI Device Manager.
If the issue continues after completing these steps, please contact HORI USA Support and provide the following information when possible:
- Product name
- Product serial number
- Windows version
- Game title
- Description of the issue
- Whether the issue occurs in the Windows controller function test
- Photos or screenshots showing the Windows controller test results
- HORI Device Manager firmware version
- Any troubleshooting steps already completed
Providing this information will help us evaluate the issue more efficiently.
