General Troubleshooting Guide

Support Limitations

Please note that HORI can only provide basic troubleshooting assistance for issues involving software, games, PC hardware, or other products that are not manufactured or developed by HORI.

For issues specifically related to game software, Windows, PC hardware, or other third-party products, please contact the appropriate game developer/publisher, PC manufacturer, or hardware manufacturer for further assistance.

IMPORTANT: The HORI Farming Vehicle Control System is designed for use with Farming Simulator 22, Farming Simulator 25, and newer versions. Compatibility with Farming Simulator 19 and earlier versions cannot be guaranteed.

1. General Troubleshooting

Before You Play

Before using the HORI Farming Vehicle Control System, please make sure the product firmware is updated to the latest version.

The Farming Vehicle Control System consists of multiple components, including the Steering Wheel Unit, Control Panel Unit, and Pedal Unit.

Please download and install the latest HORI Device Manager from the HORI USA Farming Vehicle Control System support page.

IMPORTANT: Both the Steering Wheel Unit and Control Panel Unit must be updated when firmware updates are available.

Firmware Update

  1. Download and install the latest HORI Device Manager.
  2. Connect the Farming Vehicle Control System to your Windows PC.
  3. Open the HORI Device Manager.
  4. Select the detected HORI Farming Controller device.
  5. Follow the instructions displayed in the application to complete the firmware update.
  6. Check both the Steering Wheel Unit and Control Panel Unit and update each device as necessary.
  7. After completing the updates, close the HORI Device Manager.
  8. Disconnect the Farming Vehicle Control System from the PC.
  9. Restart your computer.
  10. After Windows has fully restarted, reconnect the devices and launch the game.

DO NOT disconnect or reconnect the USB cable while a firmware update is in progress. Interrupting the firmware update may corrupt the device data.

Please note that Windows or some antivirus/security programs may display a warning because the application is relatively new or not yet widely recognized. The official HORI firmware updater provided through the HORI website is safe to use.

2. USB Connection Troubleshooting

If the Farming Vehicle Control System is not recognized correctly:

  1. Disconnect the Farming Vehicle Control System from the PC.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Wait until Windows has completely restarted.
  4. Connect the HORI devices directly to the PC's USB ports.
  5. Launch the HORI Device Manager and confirm that the devices are detected.
  6. Close the HORI Device Manager before launching the game.
  7. Launch the game and test the controls again.

If the Firmware Update Does Not Work

Please try the following:

  • Connect the controller directly to the PC instead of through a USB hub.
  • Disconnect unnecessary USB devices from the PC.
  • Close other programs that may be running in the background.
  • Restart the HORI Device Manager and try the update again.
  • Restart Windows and repeat the firmware update.

HORI recommends a direct PC connection when troubleshooting firmware update problems.

3. Windows PC Recognition / Function Test

If the controller is not functioning correctly within the game, first determine whether Windows is detecting the controller inputs correctly.

Method 1: Game Controller Settings

  1. Press Windows Key + R.

  2. Type:

    joy.cpl

  3. Press Enter.
  4. The Windows Game Controllers window should appear.
  5. Select the applicable HORI Farming Controller device.
  6. Select Properties.
  7. Test the buttons and axes.

Depending on the configuration, the Steering Wheel Unit and Control Panel Unit may appear as separate devices.

Method 2: Devices and Printers

You can also check the device through Windows Control Panel:

  1. Open Control Panel.

  2. Navigate to:

    Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers

  3. Locate the HORI Farming Controller device.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Select Game Controller Settings.
  6. Select the applicable device.
  7. Select Properties.

4. Steering Wheel Test

Turn the steering wheel slowly from left to right while viewing the Windows controller function test.

The corresponding steering axis should move smoothly as the wheel is turned.

If the steering input:

  • Does not respond
  • Jumps unexpectedly
  • Does not reach the expected range
  • Remains stuck in one position
  • Moves without the steering wheel being operated

please disconnect the controller, restart the PC, reconnect the controller, and test it again.

Also confirm that the latest firmware is installed.

Important: Force Feedback / Vibration

The HORI Farming Vehicle Control System does not include Force Feedback or vibration.

The steering wheel uses a spring-return mechanism and supports up to 900 degrees of rotation. Resistance from the spring and the wheel returning toward center are therefore normal behaviors and should not be mistaken for Force Feedback.

5. Steering Sensitivity / Deadzone

If the steering feels too sensitive, too slow, too fast, or difficult to control, first confirm that the steering input works correctly in Windows.

Steering sensitivity can then be adjusted using either:

  • The HORI Device Manager
  • The game's Sensitivity and Deadzone settings

HORI Device Manager supports adjustment of the wheel's steering sensitivity. Farming Simulator also provides individual axis sensitivity and deadzone settings.

In Farming Simulator

  1. Open the game's Options menu.
  2. Navigate to the controller/input settings.
  3. Locate the applicable steering axis.
  4. Check the Sensitivity setting.
  5. Check the Deadzone setting.
  6. Adjust the values gradually.
  7. Test the steering after each adjustment.

If the steering works correctly in Windows but behaves differently within the game, the issue may be related to the game's input settings rather than the controller hardware.

6. Pedal Troubleshooting

The Farming Vehicle Control System includes:

  • Accelerator
  • Brake
  • Clutch

The pedal unit uses Hall Effect sensors for input detection.

If one or more pedals are not functioning correctly, first check them using the Windows controller function test.

Pedal Function Test

  1. Open joy.cpl.
  2. Select the applicable HORI Farming Controller device.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Slowly press the accelerator pedal.
  5. Confirm that the corresponding axis responds.
  6. Slowly press the brake pedal.
  7. Confirm that the corresponding axis responds.
  8. Slowly press the clutch pedal.
  9. Confirm that the corresponding axis responds.

Each pedal should produce a consistent input when pressed and released.

If the Pedals Work in Windows but Not in the Game

Check the game's controller settings and confirm:

  • Accelerator is assigned correctly.
  • Brake is assigned correctly.
  • Clutch is assigned correctly.
  • The correct input axis is selected.
  • Deadzone settings are not set too high.
  • The axis has not been accidentally inverted.
  • There are no conflicting controller assignments.

If necessary, remove the existing pedal assignments and manually assign each pedal again.

7. Control Panel Troubleshooting

The Farming Vehicle Control System's Control Panel Unit includes multiple buttons, a multifunction control lever with twist-axis input, and a separate throttle lever.

If the Control Panel is not functioning correctly, first confirm that Windows detects the device.

Control Lever Test

Move the multifunction control lever:

  • Forward
  • Backward
  • Left
  • Right

Then rotate/twist the control lever.

The corresponding axes should respond within the Windows controller function test.

The twist axis may be used for functions such as operating specialized equipment or machinery within supported games.

Throttle Lever Test

Move the throttle lever slowly through its full range.

Confirm that the corresponding axis responds smoothly within the Windows controller test.

Button Test

Press the buttons on the Control Panel one at a time.

The corresponding button indicators should activate within the Windows controller function test.

If an input does not register in Windows, restart the PC and reconnect the controller before testing again.

8. MODE Button / Alternate Button Functions

The MODE button functions similarly to a Shift key and allows access to alternate functions for certain buttons on the control lever.

You do not need to hold the MODE button continuously.

To use the MODE function:

  1. Press the MODE button once.
  2. The red MODE indicator should illuminate.
  3. The applicable buttons will switch to their alternate assignments.
  4. Press the MODE button again to return to the normal button assignments.

If a button appears to perform a different function than expected, first check whether MODE is currently enabled.

9. Button Mapping

Button assignments may vary depending on the game being played.

For supported Farming Simulator titles, many functions may be automatically assigned when the controller is connected.

Individual functions can also be reassigned through the game's controller/input settings.

If a Button Works in Windows but Not in the Game

  1. Open the Windows controller function test.
  2. Confirm that the button registers when pressed.
  3. Open the game's controller settings.
  4. Locate the desired game function.
  5. Manually assign the HORI controller button.
  6. Remove any duplicate or conflicting assignments if necessary.
  7. Save the settings.
  8. Test the control again.

If the button responds correctly in Windows but cannot be assigned or used within a particular game, please check the game's controller support or contact the game developer/publisher.

10. Farming Simulator Does Not Recognize the Controller

If Farming Simulator does not recognize the Farming Vehicle Control System:

  1. Confirm that Windows recognizes the Steering Wheel and Control Panel.
  2. Confirm that the latest HORI firmware is installed.
  3. Confirm that both the Steering Wheel Unit and Control Panel Unit have been updated.
  4. Restart the PC.
  5. Reconnect the HORI devices.
  6. Launch Farming Simulator.
  7. Check the game's controller/input settings.
  8. Confirm that the game itself has been updated to the latest available version.
  9. If necessary, reset or reconfigure the game's controller assignments.

HORI currently lists Farming Simulator 22 and Farming Simulator 25 as fully compatible, with buttons automatically mapped after USB connection.

11. Other Games / Software Compatibility

The Farming Vehicle Control System was developed primarily for the Farming Simulator series, but it may also function with certain other PC simulation or driving games.

Compatibility and available functions vary depending on the software.

Some games may:

  • Require manual button mapping.
  • Support only a limited number of Control Panel buttons.
  • Display controller inputs differently.
  • Not support every axis or function.
  • Not support the Farming Vehicle Control System at all.

Please check the current HORI Farming Vehicle Control System Compatibility List before troubleshooting game-specific functionality.

If the controller functions correctly within Windows but the issue occurs only with a specific game, please contact the game developer/publisher for further assistance.

12. Controller Works in Windows but Not in the Game

If the Steering Wheel, pedals, Control Panel buttons, control lever, and throttle respond correctly within the Windows controller test, Windows is successfully receiving input from the HORI controller.

Please check the following within the game:

  1. Confirm that the correct controller is selected.
  2. Review the game's controller/input assignments.
  3. Reassign the affected controls manually.
  4. Check steering sensitivity.
  5. Check steering deadzone.
  6. Check pedal assignments.
  7. Check whether any axes are inverted.
  8. Check Control Panel button assignments.
  9. Check for duplicate or conflicting button assignments.
  10. Confirm the MODE button is in the intended state.
  11. Reset the game's controller settings and configure the controller again if necessary.
  12. Confirm that the game supports the applicable HORI controller function.

If the product functions correctly within Windows but the issue occurs only within the game, please contact the game developer/publisher for additional game-specific support.

13. Controller Does Not Work Correctly in Windows

If the controller inputs do not respond correctly within the Windows controller function test:

  1. Disconnect the HORI Farming Vehicle Control System.
  2. Restart the PC.
  3. Wait until Windows has fully restarted.
  4. Connect the devices directly to the PC.
  5. Avoid using a USB hub while troubleshooting.
  6. Open the HORI Device Manager.
  7. Confirm that the Steering Wheel Unit is detected.
  8. Confirm that the Control Panel Unit is detected.
  9. Check for available firmware updates for both devices.
  10. Complete all firmware updates.
  11. Restart the PC.
  12. Reconnect the devices.
  13. Repeat the Windows controller function test.

If possible, also try another USB port on the PC.

14. Steering Wheel Moves or Behaves Unexpectedly

If the wheel appears to move unexpectedly, does not center correctly, or produces unusual steering input:

  1. Disconnect the controller.
  2. Restart the PC.
  3. Confirm that the controller firmware is updated.
  4. Reconnect the device directly to the PC.
  5. Test the steering axis using joy.cpl.
  6. Check the steering sensitivity in the HORI Device Manager.
  7. Check sensitivity and deadzone settings within the game.

Remember that the wheel uses a spring-return mechanism. Some movement toward the center position when the wheel is released is normal. The product does not contain a Force Feedback or vibration motor.

15. Firmware Update Troubleshooting

If the HORI Device Manager cannot detect the Farming Vehicle Control System or cannot complete the firmware update:

  1. Do not use a USB hub.
  2. Connect the controller directly to the PC.
  3. Disconnect unnecessary USB devices.
  4. Close other applications.
  5. Restart the HORI Device Manager.
  6. Restart Windows if necessary.
  7. Try another USB port.
  8. Attempt the firmware update again.

Do not disconnect the USB cable while the firmware is being updated.

16. If the Issue Continues

If the Farming Vehicle Control System continues to malfunction after completing the troubleshooting above, please contact HORI USA Support.

  • Steam or other game platform being used
  • Detailed description of the issue

  • Whether the affected input responds correctly in the Windows controller test
